Cupping therapy is an ancient healing technique Cupping uses suction to draw blood to or away from specific areas of your body. People mostly use cupping to relieve conditions that cause pain. Some people say it also helps with chronic (ongoing) health issues. There are two types of cupping
(Bloodless Cupping)
(Bleeding)
The skin under the cup is sucked up by a vacuum created inside the cup. Dry cupping therapy can be light/medium or strong based on suction power. it commonly involves creating a small area of low air pressure next to the skin—varieties in tools, methods, and procedures used during treatment.
Hijama, also known as cupping, is a traditional Arabic therapy where small incisions are made in the skin, and blood is drawn using a vacuum for therapeutic purposes. It is effective for detoxification and addressing sluggish organs. Hijama is known to relieve pain, such as migraines and backaches, making it a valuable preventive treatment.
Cupping (Hijama in Arabic) is an ancient, holistic method for the treatment of a variety of diseases. Though the exact origin of cupping therapy is a matter of controversy, its use has been documented in early Egyptian and Chinese medical practices.
“According to historical texts, the Egyptians passed the art of cupping onto the people of ancient Greece.“

The author of Al-Qanun, Ibn Sina, said: ‘cupping is not preferred in the beginning nor the end of the month. It is preferred in the middle of the month when the substances (of the constitution or the condition) accumulate and become agitated. In a different Hadith The Prophet PBUH used to have cupping done on the 17th, 19th and 21st day of the lunar month’, the most beneficial time was reported to be 2-3 hours after taking a bath. Fasting a day before the cupping was also recommended.
Hijama was declared the best of medicines by Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), alongside the Quran.
He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Cupping is the most helpful procedure for human beings to cure themselves.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari 5357)
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The best treatment is hijama cupping; it removes blood, lightens the back and sharpens the eyesight.”
(Sunan al-Tirmidhi 3053)
